Real Time Air Monitoring

Real-time air monitoring at Emilcott is delivered by our  Greenlight™  Environmental Monitoring System—originally developed to monitor airborne dust and vapor concentrations. Today, our systems can monitor for a range of dust particle sizes, gases, TVOCs, noise and vibration.  The system can be configured to provide real-time telemetry for almost any type of sensor or instrumentation.  Additionally, our environmental systems  collect meteorological information, such as wind speed and direction, to correlate the impact and source of potential hazards. We offer a variety of solutions designed for small project sites, large and complex long term projects, and emergency response actions. Our units are deployed across a variety of settings:  construction and demolition sites, healthcare and educational facilities, remediation sites such as landfills and MGP sites, and others. Our systems are flexible in configuration, making them scalable in size to satisfy a wide range of industrial, commercial and government applications.

Supervisory Control

Emilcott technicians can, both remotely or on the job-site, wirelessly access and operate each monitoring station controlling equipment power and communications. Centralized system control gives us early warning of potential failures before any system failure occurs.

In NYC, the DEP regulates construction dust and noise to prevent particulate matter from becoming airborne, and requires dust and noise mitigation plans to be submitted prior to the onset of work.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • The core of the monitoring station is the central processor, or RTU (remote terminal unit). Telemetry is typically provided by an onboard modem. The RTU and modem are paired with a selection of measurement equipment (e.g., particulate, VOC, sound monitors) and deployed in an environmentally sealed case. Other instruments include multi-gas meters, specific gas sensors, sound and noise monitoring equipment, vibration sensors, and weather stations. The system may be set up on a tripod for mobile applications or in a fixed metal enclosure mounted to a fence or pole.

  • Systems can be deployed by Emilcott technicians or shipped to worksites anywhere in the world to be deployed by other trained site personnel. We can preset alert and action limits, and fully configure the hardware and software prior to delivery of the equipment to your site. On-site training is provided, and included in the price. We ensure your personnel fully understand the equipment operation and user interface.

  • All data is stored on Emilcott’s secure cloud servers. The data is always available to you during the life of the project and beyond. Recent data is also stored locally at the RTU within each station. This allows for transfer at a later time if there is any interruption with the data connectivity.

  • Standard Operation of the Monitoring systems can be conducted by either your personnel or Emilcott technicians on the site. Site personnel will address issues such as relocating stations in support of project activity, routine calibration and maintenance, adjustment of solar cells, and/or recharging of batteries. Additionally Emilcott remotely monitors all job-sites to identify system performance issues that are usually corrected remotely without involvement from the client.

  • Basic system technical support is provided remotely at no extra charge. Additional services, including custom reports, custom configurations, and environmental consulting can also be provided.

  • Emilcott is a full service Environmental, Health, and Safety company that can help you understand regulatory requirements, best practices, and risk management strategies and assist with all reporting requirements.

  • The Greenlight system’s data is available to all web-enabled devices, such as smartphones, tables, laptops and PCs. As long as users can access the internet, they can view the Greenlight data. The Greenlight system’s data is presented in a variety of formats, including charts, tables, maps, and reports. Most importantly, the system provides real-time alert notifications via text or email, so that site personnel can respond to abnormal conditions in a timely manner

  • The Greenlight monitoring system is fully scalable, both in terms of the number of field monitoring stations and their locations. Each station transmits data wirelessly, directly to the Greenlight database in the cloud. As long as there is cellular network coverage, there is no practical limit to the geographical range of the stations. In our projects, the stations typically range over many hundreds of feet, but we have successfully installed systems where stations were several miles apart.

  • During remediation of brownfield sites, soil and/or sediment containing hazardous substances will be disturbed. Thus, such activity has the potential to release some amount of these substances into the air. Measurement of air quality, using a fully integrated system such as Greenlight, is essential to verifying that the remediation activities do not pose a health threat, either within the work area or in the surrounding community.
