Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health Services

OSHA defines the practice of Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health as “the science of anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling workplace conditions that may cause workers’ injury or illness”.

The majority of jobs have hazards – whether they are chemical, biological or physical. It is the employer’s responsibility to minimize a worker’s exposure to these occupational hazards by understanding them and controlling or eliminating them. It is a worker’s responsibility to avoid injury and illness by following standard operating procedures and practices. The responsibility of the industrial hygienist is to determine the extent of worker exposure through observation, monitoring, and analysis, and then to recommend methods of control such as engineering changes, work practice alteration, personal protective equipment or other means.

EMILCOTT has performed thousands of hazard assessments for all types of industries and clients. We have the capability to identify and quantify all kinds of hazards whether they are naturally-occurring such as mold and fungi, silica, and asbestos, unique man-made chemical compounds and pharmaceuticals, or a by-product of the work environment like excessive noise levels, musculoskeletal stress, and falling or tripping.

Our industrial hygienists will work closely with company management to evaluate work place conditions, and, when necessary, perform assessments that may include conducting personal and/or area exposure sampling.  We use only OSHA and NIOSH approved methods and submit samples to AIHA accredited laboratories. Our experts are highly knowledgeable at interpreting sampling results, and all final reports will be validated and signed by an Emilcott Certified Industrial Hygienist. Our comprehensive reports include an explanation of the hazards found, our method of evaluation, our findings and recommendations for control.  Emilcott can also assist with hazard reduction implementation and employee training.

EMILCOTT has been providing industrial hygiene, environmental, health and safety, services to industry, commercial property owners, utilities, environmental engineering and construction firms, and government agencies for over 20 years.
