Water Safety & Small Boat Operations
(29 CFR 1903.14, 29 CFR 1926.106 & N.J.S.A. 12:7-60)

What You Will Learn
This course will satisfy all requirements for water safety and small boat operation under OSHA and the NJ State Police licensing. Taught by a USCG Licensed Captain, this course will cover: nautical terminology and the nautical chart; navigation rules and basic navigation; legal requirements and safety; boat handling and trailering; proper communications; weather hazards; emergencies; and an introduction to water rescue. An examination will be given at the end of the course. Upon successful completion, a temporary license will be issued and the results filed with the State of NJ who will issue the permanent license.
Who Should Attend?
If you are required to operate a boat as part of your job, you must get this training! In addition, to operate a power driven vessel in NJ waters, you must be licensed by the State Police. A part of these requirements include an 8-Hour boating safety course taught by an approved instructor. Also, under OSHA 29 CFR 1926.106 and 1903.14, employers are required to ensure that personnel operating on or near the water have special equipment and training and when employees are working over water (such as bridge or pier work) a rescue skiff and crew must be available. This course is highly recommended for employees involved in SPCC plans, construction near of over water, bridge inspection, surveying, and spill response.
